A new adventure...

Well alrighty then,
Maybe I am stressing for nothing and maybe I might be showing a sign of weakness when I need to be exhibiting strength, but it just dawned on me that I am going to be the new Editor in Chief for the Foghorn Newspaper ( Del Mar College).
Questions start to plague my peanut and I know that everything will fit into place, but why do I feel like a fish out of water?

1. I just realized that I might be hurting people's feelings in one form or another when it comes to assigning positions. There is the side of me who knows that being in charge means not being able to make everyone happy all the time. I understand that; yet I have this soft spot for people that I now consider friends. (I don't know where this came from, I always considered myself an asshole until just recently...my wife will agree.) I do understand that not everyone can get what they want and there will have to be adjustments made in order to accommodate so that we can focus on a successful paper. I guess those bridges will be crossed eventually.

2. I was asked what changes I would make, if any, to the way the paper was last semester. Look, it's no secret that we lost some focus, but except for a few tweaks here and there, we were still a decent paper. "Am I satisfied with decent?" I was asked... Nope, decent is sub-par at best. We are still an award winning paper, but again, we lost focus and that lack of focus showed in every aspect. (It happens) In the next few days, I think we can develop a plan to refocus and "turn this mutha out". I feel that I have a great person behind me who could have easily become the Editor in Chief, (she was more than qualified and I am still in shock) and the outgoing editor is just as awesome.

3. ch ch ch changes... "I have a vision... it's just a little fuzzy right now."~p. perez (feel free to use it if you want)
The flag will change just a little. I want to encorporate a graphic somewhere, commemorating 75 years of serving Del Mar College. Maybe take it old-school and bring back the Viking, or maybe the lighthouse... dunno yet.
5- day weather, buh-bye.(maybe we'll see you on the website)

4. before I go on, I need to say that everyone knows that the future of newspapers is a little uncertain... I see newspapers starting to focus a majority of energy back to local, community and possibly regional news in the near future. World news can be found anywhere on the web, so why bother. Newspapers need to be loyal and dedicated to the community that supports them. I think that's where our paper will be primarily focused on. Of course, World news is important, and keeping our community informed about major events is key (MAJOR being the key word) to journalism but focus on our area is vital in order to make our paper attractive to potential readers. Am I wrong here?

Anyway, I am rambling...
